Frequently Asked Questions & Sugaring Facts
How does sugaring work?
Sugaring is one of the oldest known methods of hair removal. Our sugar paste is made from only three simple ingredients: sugar, lemon, and water. This water-soluble formula is applied at body temperature and helps gently remove hair from the root in the same direction as the hair growth, without synthetic additives or resins. This tends to be a better option for sensitive skin.
How does waxing work?
Traditional waxing involves applying hard wax (which hardens and is removed without strips) to the skin. The wax adheres to the hair and is then pulled away quickly, removing the hair from the root in the opposite direction of hair growth. It's a widely used method that can provide smooth skin for several weeks.
How long does sugaring last? How long does waxing last?
Results from both methods typically last around 2–3 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle. With consistent treatments, many clients notice softer, thinner regrowth over time. Skin remains silky smooth for about 2 weeks until hair begins to grow back. Hair follicles grow two hairs out of each. When removed from the root only one will grow back at a time, therefore your regrowth will be thinner and softer.
How often should i get waxed or sugared?
Most clients return every 4–6 weeks to maintain results. Waiting long enough between appointments allows for the proper hair length to ensure effective removal.
What is the ideal hair length for a Waxing or sugaring appointment?
For sugaring; hair should be about ¼ inch long—approximately the length of a grain of rice. This usually takes 2–4 weeks of growth, depending on your natural hair growth rate. For waxing; hair should needs to be a bit longer which may take 4-6 weeks of growth.
sugaring vs. traditional waxing - what’s the difference?
Both methods remove hair from the root, but they differ in a few ways:
Ingredients: Sugaring uses a natural paste made of sugar, lemon, and water. Traditional wax may contain resins and fragrances.
Temperature: Sugaring paste is used at body temperature; wax is typically heated before application.
Technique: Sugaring removes hair in the direction of growth; waxing generally removes against it.
Tools: Sugaring is applied by hand (gloved); waxing typically uses sticks and strips.
The best choice varies depending on your skin sensitivity, hair texture, and personal preference. Our estheticians are happy to help you decide.
Is waxing more painful than sugaring?
Pain tolerance varies from person to person. Some clients find sugaring to be gentler due to its natural formula and the direction of hair removal. Others prefer traditional waxing for its speed and efficiency—especially for larger areas. Both methods become more comfortable over time with regular treatments.
Can waxing or sugaring cause ingrown hairs?
Any form of hair removal can potentially lead to ingrown hairs. However, proper technique, regular exfoliation, and consistent aftercare greatly reduce the risk. We offer exfoliation products and post-treatment advice to help prevent irritation.
is waxing safe for sensitive skin?
Yes, though clients with sensitive skin should consult with their esthetician to choose the best type of wax (e.g., hard wax for delicate areas). A patch test may also be recommended to check for reactions.
What should I do to prep for sugaring or waxing appointment?
Avoid shaving for at least 2 weeks, or waxing/sugaring for 4 weeks, before your service. Make sure the hair is about ¼ inch long. Gently exfoliate the area a couple of days prior, and avoid applying lotions or oils on the day of your appointment.
what should i expect after my sugaring or waxing service?
You may experience temporary redness or sensitivity in the treated area. For 24–48 hours, avoid:
Heavy exercise or sweating
Hot tubs, saunas, and hot showers
Tight clothing that may cause friction
We also carry gentle, professional-grade aftercare products to soothe and protect the skin.
Is everyone a candidate for waxing or sugaring?
Clients who are currently on Accutane, retinol (in the treatment area), or undergoing certain skin treatments (like laser or peels) should wait before booking a hair removal appointment. Let your esthetician know if you have a history of sensitivities, sunburn, or skin conditions in the area.
